Good afternoon DO Class of 2026,

We just received your results from the welcome back practice qualifying exam double-COMSAE today from the NBOME. Remember this experience was meant to begin to desensitize you to what the 8-hour COMLEX-USA Level 1 exam is going to feel like and the marathon-like endurance you will need to succeed! You have now accomplished this and know what this exam is going to take in terms of mental and physical endurance on Level 1!

The results of the two COMSAEs are presented in the table below, along with the data from the three most recent cohorts who took the exam in a similar fashion (1st or 2nd day back in Block 7). One thing to keep in mind here is that you are the first class to take the "new" version (forms) for the NBOME COMSAEs, and the first class to use the two newest forms in particular, so keep that in mind when comparing your scores.

As you can see from the results, your class is very (internally) consistent across the two COMSAE exams. If you took these exams seriously, you should be able to interpret where you are currently in terms of your board preparation. As it is the NBOME who develops the COMSAE exams as well as the COMLEX-USA exams, the 8 hours you spent taking these 2 COMSAEs, and the scores you received on them, are predictive to some extent of the score you might have received if you took the COMLEX-USA Level 1 exam for real on January 5th. Keep in mind nearly all of our students in past cohorts have been successful on their first COMLEX-USA Level 1 attempt. You can do this, and you will do this! :) Keep working hard (and remember my favorite saying - everything you want is on the other side of hard work! :))

Now, as I said above, it is slightly problematic to compare to the previous classes since they took different forms/questions. However, I do feel comfortable saying that your class is nearly on par with the CUSOM classes of 2023 - 2025 (external consistency), at least from what I see based on the overall numbers. What this means is that, while there is still much to be done, as Dr. Mahalik says, it can be done and it will be done! Again, I want to stress that the CUSOM curriculum is designed to prepare you for your boards, and more! :) Don't sacrifice the learning that should be going on in the courses being delivered online in blocks 7 and 8, while trying to do other studying! Secondly, utilize the COMLEX-USA Level 1 portion of your TrueLearn COMBANK account that we pay for, and use it to practice questions concurrently with your course material (so GI and Endocrine this block). Also remember, that you will have updated question count totals due before QE #1 and finally the entire bank of 2000+ total questions before QE #2 (essentially 350 more at each QE, so that you complete the 2000 total prior to QE #2).

Lastly, don't stress out! I know that's easier said than done, but there is still a great deal of time for you to prepare for boards. You have 9 successful cohorts of your peers ahead of you who have gone through the CUSOM curriculum and have been successful. We know you will be following in their footsteps very soon!!! As always, I am here if you need to talk specifics about your board prep program - and also Dr. Mahalik and I look forward to talking all about this and other board prep information with you in our upcoming session (TBD - Block 7). Take care and see you tomorrow for Quiz 2!

Kind regards,
Zack
