Hey everyone! So this message comes to y’all concerning the announcement
made during anatomy lab on Thursday about body bags being left open again.
The anatomy faculty wanted to really emphasize that we are now on the final
straw. If we have another offense, then the after lab time hours will be
restricted permanently. I know none of us want this because practicals are
hard enough as it is even with the 24/7 access to the lab.
I am confident that what is happening is that multiple groups are in the
lab at around the same time and when jumping between bodies a body gets
forgotten along the way during clean up. Here are some guidelines Bradley
and I believe might prevent this from happening again if we stick to them
as a class:
1. Whenever leaving a body unattended, please close the body bag up before
moving on even if you plan to come back to it or another group says they
want to check it out. This will allow us to not make any communication
errors between groups on whose responsibility it is to close up a body bag.
2. Before leaving the lab (especially if you are the last group remaining),
please do a quick walkthrough of the lab to make sure there are no
unattended bodies that have been left open. If there happens to be a body
left unattended and open, please close it up. Even if another student is
coming right back, the bags do not take very long to open again.
3. Even if you haven’t worked on it during your after hours visit, please
check on your assigned body each visit to make sure the bag is still closed
up and muselin is wet. Remember to try to only open up bodies that are
assigned bodies for members of your group per request of the anatomy
professors.
I hope you guys see these suggestions as a positive way we can move forward
with after hours studying and happily encourage each other to stick to
these ideas. Remember, these cadavers were once human beings who allowed
their remains to be used in order for us to learn the art of medicine.
Let’s do our best to keep each other accountable for showing respect with
the proper care. Also, please reach out to Bradley or I if you guys have
any suggestions of other ways to reduce risk of a repeated offense. Thank
you all for your time and let’s crush this exam on Monday!
