Dear CUSOM Students,
I hope this note finds you well.
As you should know, CUSOM will undergo our next full accreditation site visit tentatively scheduled for January/February 2024, with a Self-Study Report (SSR) to be submitted to the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) most likely late Summer/Fall 2023.
Information concerning the COCA can be found here:
https://osteopathic.org/accreditation/
The Standards for Accreditation under which CUSOM is currently accredited can be found here:
https://osteopathic.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/com-continuing-accreditation-standards.pdf
Please note these Standards will most likely change in the next few months, but these should provide insights as to what is expected of our medical school. Although we may have a few different Standards to address, I encourage you to read the entirety of the Standards document as many Elements of the Standards cross-reference with other sections, so "your" section(s) may touch many other areas as well.
Each of you will play an important role in these efforts and our success. Additional information will be made available to you soon as to the overall approach and your specific roles, but I wanted to share with you today the current CUSOM Mission Statement and the 2019-2024 Strategic Plan as developed through the collaborative efforts of CUSOM faculty, staff, and students.
For the Mission Statement:
1. Although changing any component of the Mission Statement (including Values and Goals) is considered a Substantive Change by the COCA, your feedback is important.
2. You may offer suggestions for possible future changes to the Mission Statement in the Qualtrics survey. Each suggestion must have a corresponding rationale.
3. All survey responses and suggestions are anonymous and will be given due consideration.
4. Please affirm you have reviewed the current Mission Statement, Values, and Goals along with the current 2019-2024 CUSOM Strategic Plan and provide feedback by completing the Qualtrics survey provided below.

A link to the CUSOM Strategic Plan 2019-2024<https://campbellu.egnyte.com/dl/9CEwCAAVhd> is provided to you here and in the survey to use in your consideration of the CUSOM Mission Statement, Values, and Goals<https://medicine.campbell.edu/about/mission-values-goals/#:~:text=The%20mission%20of%20the%20Campbell,United%20States%20and%20the%20nation.>.
Stakeholders listed below will present reports of feedback and suggestions from their constituents to a special meeting of Dean's Council.
* Students (led by the SGA President)
* Faculty (led by the Chair of the Faculty Senate)
* Staff (led by the Chief of Operations)
Feedback related to the CUSOM Mission Statement, Values, and Goals will be collated, summarized, and shared with the Strategic Planning Committee to use as part of its review relative to accomplishing goals stated in the 2019-2024 plan and in determining future direction for the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
To facilitate timely processing, I ask that you respond on or before October 21, 2022.
Please note these are only a few of the topics which must be addressed in the full Self-Study Report, so you may receive additional communications in the near future requesting your assistance and expertise regarding other specific Elements.
I appreciate all you do for the success of our students and our institution and look forward to your contributions to the Self-Study process.
Respectfully,
Brian A. Kessler, DO
Dean and Chief Academic Office
