So, I just wanted to take the opportunity to seize this "Black History" moment and provide ya'll with some additional information. <i>Also, thank you Obed for sharing this resource. Tyler Perry asked some great questions<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M56q6TIJ890"> in that special</a>. </i></div><div><br></div><div>Both Obed and Tyler Perry mentioned the general hesitation, skepticism and caution with vaccinations in the Black community. That's true, <i>and for some pretty good reasons.</i> Maybe you've heard about the Tuskegee Trials, Henrietta Lacks, or even last year's proposal by two French doctors to use Africans as test subjects for Covid-19 treatments. Well the last one was recent, but if you haven't heard of the others, I understand as those are not normally included in our basic history/social studies curriculum. So, I just wanted to share a few resources for anyone who wanted to better understand.</div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div><br></div><div><ul><li>I think that <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-19-vaccine-why-some-black-americans-skeptical/">this CBS article did a great job</a> of giving an overview of the skepticism of Black americans. </li><li>The <a href="https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/history/40-years-human-experimentation-america-tuskegee-study">Tuskegee Study</a> is often referenced and resented, so here is a good explanation of that. </li><li>Lastly, NPR released this <a href="https://www.npr.org/2020/12/20/948614857/race-and-the-roots-of-vaccine-skepticism">6-minute audio on Race and The Roots of Vaccine Skepticism </a>in December.
