[Law24] M&A negotiation competition (deadline to apply = November 1 which is tomorrow)

Dear students,

This year, the ABA is starting the very first M&A (Mergers & Acquisitions) negotiation competition and Campbell was specifically invited to submit a team (or two).

If you are intersted in this amazing opportunity, please review the information about the competition in the attached document and then:

  1.  Fill out the first page of the attached PDF with your name and contact information. You can send this as a team or as an individual student (as we have some individual students who expressed interest but could not find a teammate).
  2.  Write a one-page (12 pt font) statement of interest to participate in the competition, if you apply as a team (half a page statement if you apply as an individual student). This statement should address (i) any corporate or transactional experience you have had to date, including classes taken, externships and professional experience prior to law school or while in law school, (ii) your professional goals after graduating from law school, (iii) why you are interested in participating in this competition, and (iv) any other information you would like to share with the committee reviewing applications. Do not include your name(s) on the statement.
  3.  Send your application and statement to Professors Cline and Papadima by midnight on November 1. If you have time, please also send your Campbell Law transcripts (if you don't have time, that's fine).
  4.  There will be no tryouts. Professors Cline and Papadima will select one or two teams and forward the applications and statements of those selected to the ABA by November 6.
  5.  The ABA will determine if one or both of the teams will be invited to participate in the competition. The ABA currently expects a total of 8 teams for this first edition of the competition. The ABA might also provide you with a coach from among its members, but you'll also have Professors Cline and Papadima as resources. Professor Papadima will be offering an M&A class in Spring 2024 and Professor Newell will be offering a negotiation class in Spring 2024.
  6.  If you are among the final 4 teams after the online phase of the competition, travel to California at the end of January 2024 to hang out and network with the ABA M&A Committee.
