Class,

Hello class and welcome back! I am sure many of you had dreams of a laid-back fall semester in your 3L year. Well, I am about to burst the bubble (sorry!). We have to get started on your bar applications. For those of you intending to sit for the exam in July 2024, your applications will be due the first business day of January 2024. If you ask most of our recent graduates about this process you would hear a lot of "don't wait!" and "start early" advice. The semester will get busier with every passing week.

The good news is by setting aside one hour per week you can have this completed by exam time and you will be so much happier for having done so.

I have attached a blank copy of the application here for you to work on. The NC application is ultimately filled out within the portal found on the NCBLE website. It will not be available until February applications close. You can access the portal on November 8, 2023. Start working on the paper version so you will be ready to fill out the electronic version later. I have also included a check list of documentation that you may need to gather for your application. There is a suggested timeline at the end to keep you on track.

You will need to make arrangements for fingerprinting. This requires two fingerprint cards. These can be obtained from the NCBLE or you can get your fingerprints done at CCBI where they will supply the cards. You can schedule an appointment here:

Fingerprinting and Public Services<http://www.wakegov.com/ccbi/publicservices/Pages/fingerprinting.aspx>

Fingerprint check, pre-employment fingerprinting, fingerprint background check

This application is not well written, and you will have questions. Please schedule a time with me or Meredith once you have gone through the application and we will be happy to answer them.

If you intend to apply for accommodations on the bar exam, please note that deadlines vary based upon jurisdiction. There are often recent testing requirements and documentation required. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MNUTE. It is your responsibility to know the requirements for your jurisdiction. We are here to help,, but cannot change policies. Make an appointment with Meredith early on and determine your needs and deadlines.

Finally, you should plan for the filing costs of your bar application. The on-time fee for North Carolina is currently $850. There is an additional fee of $125 to register your computer software (due in May). Generally speaking, students cannot rely upon spring financial aid to cover these costs because they will not have been dispersed yet.

If you need information on another jurisdiction, please let us know.

Thank you,

Dean Hinds-Glick and Asst. Director Chilausky
